Rachel Anne Espino
SSG Adviser & Classroom Teacher, Leyte

Being an SSG Adviser in a Philippine public school means you are, among many things, a de facto graphic designer. Every recognition ceremony, Science Fair, Nutrition Month, and National Heroes Day event requires a banner. Something visual and official-looking that says: "This school took this event seriously."
For years, I did this in Canva — a good tool, genuinely excellent. But designed for everyone, which means not designed for DepEd specifically. Every new tarpaulin started with 20 minutes hunting for the right DepEd logo in the right format, finding the correct official color code, and building a layout that looked institutional without looking dull. Twenty minutes per event multiplied by thirty-odd events per year: ten hours of my life. Spent on baseline setup, not design.
DepEd Me's Tarpapel Generator starts where Canva forces you to finish. The official logo is there. The correct color palette is pre-loaded. Templates are formatted for standard tarpaulin sizes (2x4, 3x6, 4x8 feet) used in public schools. You add your event name, date, venue, and school name. The tool positions everything automatically within the template hierarchy. You choose a curated background appropriate for the event type — academic, civic, cultural, sports. You download a high-resolution file ready for the printing shop. Seven minutes, start to finish.
For our Recognition Ceremony, I now generate a banner with an embedded QR code linking to the full program and awardee list. Parents who cannot attend follow along on their phones. Relatives in Manila and abroad see their family members recognized in real time. The local school event's reach is amplified by a simple QR on a tarpaulin. Our PTCA president now requests this feature for every school event.
If you have ever been handed a marker and asked to "make something nice for Friday's event," this tool is for you. It does not require design skills. It does not require a Canva account. It requires knowing what your event is called and when it happens. Everything else — the layout, colors, DepEd compliance, resolution — is already handled. Your job is the content and the heart behind the event. Let the tool handle the rest.
